The American Platinum Eagle was first introduced by the US Mint back in 1997 after the great success that their American gold & silver eagle coins had. Since its introduction into the precious metals world, the platinum eagle has become one of the most popular platinum coins not only in the United States but throughout the world. Each coin is struck in .9995 fine platinum and contains 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams) of the precious metal. The weight and purity indicated on each coin is also backed by the US Mint to be 100% authentic and pure.

The 2014 version of the American Platinum Eagle is set to feature the same design on the obverse as coins of years past; a close up image of the statue of liberty in fine detail. Also marked around the image are the words “Liberty” and the phrase “In God We Trust” as well as the coins year of mintage. The reverse side of each coin is artfully crafted, reflecting the theme: “To Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and Our Posterity.” There are also stamps denoting the coins face value ($100 USD) and purity (.9995).
