2024 Austrian Philharmonic Coins
One of the oldest bullion coin programs in Europe is the Austrian Philharmonic. Introduced in 1989 with gold coins, the series has since expanded over the last four decades to include silver and platinum options, as well as additional weights in gold.
The Austrian Philharmonic has an interesting history that has seen the various weights and metals in the series introduced in phases since the 1989 debut of the gold coins. The gold coins started in 1989 with 1 oz and 1/4 oz coins. In 1991, 1/10 oz coin was introduced, followed by a 1/2 oz coin in 1994. The next introduction in the series was the 1 oz silver coin in 2008.
Subsequent additions included the 1/25 oz gold in 2014 and the 1 oz platinum coin in 2016. You will find all of these coins available again in 2024.
Since its introduction in 1989, the design of the Austrian Philharmonic coins has not changed. Thomas Pesendorfer, the Chief Engraver of the Austrian Mint, created the visuals for this coin in 1989 and showcases a collection of musical instruments used by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on the reverse, with the Great Pipe Organ from the Musikverein on the obverse.
