Leadbeater’s Possum Reverse

On the reverse of the coins in the 2022 1 oz Proof Niue Australia at Night Leadbetter’s Possum Coins, you will find the image of a possum. In fact, you will find that there is not just one possum, but three in the reverse design of the coins in this series. The depiction shows the Moon rising into the night sky in the background as two small possums play in the tree branches while a parental unit watches on from the larger branch above.

In this coin series, the mint offers both a silver coin with a black-proof finish and a gold coin with a platinum plating on the design elements. In the 1 oz proof silver issue, the coin offers contrast through a black, frosted finish on the majority of the background field. The three possums and the Moon in the background are the only silver visual elements. On the 1 oz proof gold coin, the mint incorporates a platinum plating on the Moon and possums, while leaving the beautiful gold visual of the entire background field.
