All Gold Philharmonics from JM Bullion

The Austrian Gold Philharmonic series is one of the most renowned and esteemed bullion coin collections globally. Introduced in 1989 by the Austrian Mint, it quickly gained recognition for its exceptional purity, stunning design, and association with Austria’s rich musical heritage.

Introduction and Design of the Gold Philharmonics

The Austrian Gold Philharmonic series pays homage to Austria’s renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the world’s most esteemed musical ensembles. The coin’s obverse features a depiction of the Great Organ of the Golden Hall in Vienna’s Musikverein, the concert hall where the orchestra often performs. The reverse of the coin showcases an array of musical instruments, including a cello, violins, a harp, flute, and French horn, alluding to the orchestra’s diverse musical talents. The design is a testament to Austria’s cultural heritage and its significant contributions to the world of music. Austrian Mint Chief Engraver Thomas Pesendorfer is credited with the design.

Gold Philharmonic Options

The Austrian Gold Philharmonic series is available in several denominations, catering to a wide range of investors and collectors. The most common denominations include:

  • 1 oz – introduced in 1989
  • 1/2 oz – introduced in 1994
  • 1/4 oz – introduced in 1989
  • 1/10 oz – introduced in 1991
  • 1/25 oz – introduced in 2014

When the Gold Philharmonic Coins debuted in 1989, the European Union had not launched the Eurozone and its common currency, the Euro. As such, historic Gold Philharmonics issued through 2001 had face values in Austrian Schillings. As of 2002, all coins have face values in Euros. The historic and current face values include the following:

  • 1 oz – 2,000 Schillings, 100 Euros
  • 1/2 oz – 1,000 Schillings, 50 Euros
  • 1/4 oz – 500 Schillings, 25 Euros
  • 1/10 oz – 200 Schillings, 10 Euros

Since it was introduced in 2014, the 1/25 oz coin has only ever been offered with Euros as a face value. Its denomination is set at 4 Euros.
