The Perth Mint is known for much more than its annual silver bullion coin releases. Its beautiful bullion coin collections offer images of the various native animals from the Australian continent in different reliefs each year, but that is not where the Perth Mint’s design prowess ends. Among its latest offerings is the Perth Mint Marvel Series of silver bullion coins. New Packaging
The original coin designs released in the Marvel Series collection launched in 2017 from the Perth Mint with the Spiderman design. The coins were issued with individual capsules, rolls of 20, and boxes of 100 or 300 coins. The maximum mintage from the series included 50,000 coins in total for each of the designs in the series. From that original mintage of 50,000 coins, the Perth Mint has repackaged 1,000 of the coins from each design in the collection.
Each of the Perth Mint Marvel Series Coins in this release comes with its own full-color artwork card. The coins are housed within the card itself and on the obverse of the card is a colorized depiction of the superhero depicted on the reverse of the coin. The artwork on the obverse of the cards matches the design found on the reverse of the coin as the exact depiction of the superhero from its original Marvel Comics appearance.
Available Coins
Six of the seven coins in the Marvel Series collection from the Perth Mint are available in this re-release from the Perth Mint. The only missing coin from the original collection is the 2017 Spiderman coin. All of the coins offered after the Spiderman debut issue are featured in this series, including the following:
- 2018 Thor: The superhero based on the Norse god of thunder and inclement weather is depicted on the reverse of the coins and in full-color artwork on the card as he wields his powerful hammer.
- 2018 Black Panther: On the reverse of these coins is the image of the leader of Wakanada, the fictional African kingdom that the Black Panther led as his alter ego. Black Panther is notable as the first-ever superhero of African-American descent.
- 2018 Iron Man: The reverse of the Iron Man coin depicts arguably the most popular superhero from Marvel Comics in the last two decades. Robert Downey Jr. has depicted Tony Stark as Iron Man in all Marvel Cinematic Studios feature films in the 21st
- 2018 Deadpool: Arguably the most entertaining Marvel Comic figure, Deadpool is more of an anti-hero who takes action when it suits his purposes. A former mercenary with the uncanny ability to heal quickly, Deadpool is known for his incessant talking and constant joking.
- 2019 Captain America: A symbol of Western society during the Cold War, Captain America was created by Timely Comics in the 1940s and was popular through World War II and the post-war period. He features on these coins with his trademark shield.
- 2019 Hulk: A comic version of Jekyll and Hyde, Hulk is the alter ego of Dr. Bruce Banner and the two figures could never tolerate the other. Hulk was known for his powerful fits of rage and the trademarked “Hulk smash” is depicted on these coins.
Six-Coin Set
The Perth Mint repackaged 1,000 of each of the coin designs for individual purchase inside of the colorful cards. However, you also have the option of purchasing all six of the coins in this limited issue as part of a six-coin Marvel Series card set. The set, like the individual cards, has a limited mintage of just 1,000 sets. All of the coins in this collection are available with 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver and are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
About the Perth Mint
The Marvel Series is just the latest of the impressive silver collections from the Perth Mint. Founded in 1899, the Perth Mint was the third and final mint facility constructed in Australia by the Royal Mint of England. It followed the construction of the Sydney Mint and the Melbourne Mint. Today, it stands as the oldest operating mint facility in the country and predates even the Royal Australian Mint. The Currency Act of 1965 extended legal tender status to all of the coins from the Perth Mint.
